Victor Osimhen made a few new prints in his remarkable UEFA Champions League career as Galatasaray defeated Lille 4-2 away from home on Wednesday night.
The Super Eagles striker scored the decisive fourth goal in an entertaining league-phase encounter. His effort helped the Turkish champions secure three valuable points while setting three significant records.
Osimhen, who previously played for Lille during the 2019/20 season, also showed respect for his former club by refusing to celebrate his goal.
Interestingly, his performance brought new milestones for Galatasaray and Nigerian football.

Victor Osimhen extends Galatasaray foreign record
Victor Osimhen is Galatasaray’s record foreign goalscorer in Europe, a mark he set earlier in the year when he scored in a 3-2 defeat against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. With 13 goals across all European competitions, Osimhen overtook the long-standing record of former Czech international Milan Baroš, who had held the mark with 12 goals.
Osimhen’s 61st-minute strike against Lille took his European goal tally for Galatasaray to 14 as he begins to put some distance between him and the others on the chart.
The 27-year-old has also established himself as Galatasaray’s most prolific foreign goalscorer in the Champions League, with eight goals in the competition.
Only two players have scored more Champions League goals for the Turkish giants. Hakan Şükür leads the standings with 13, followed by Burak Yılmaz with 10.
Osimhen’s continued scoring form puts him within reach of the club’s overall record.

More Champions League goals for Galatasaray than any other clubs
The Lille encounter brought to the fore one Victor Osimhen record that has flown under the radar.
Osimhen, who scored his first Champions League goal in the colours of Lille, is the first Nigerian player to score for three different clubs in the competition proper.
In the Champions League, Osimhen managed two goals for Lille, seven for Napoli and now eight for Galatasaray, making the Turkish giants the greatest beneficiary of his brilliance.

Osimhen extends Nigeria’s Champions League goals record
Osimhen’s strike against Lille took his Champions League tally to 17 goals, extending his position as Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in the competition.
He entered the match with 16 goals and moved further clear of the players closest to him on the historical list.
Ademola Lookman and Obafemi Martins are joint-second among Nigerian scorers in the Champions League, with nine goals each.
