Werder Bremen’s Super Eagles star ruled out of Hamburger SV clash

Werder Bremen head coach Daniel Thioune has confirmed that his side will be without Super Eagles defender Felix Agu in their game against Hamburger SV, Afrik Foot reports.

The 26-year-old has endured a tough season. Agu was initially in line to feature for Nigeria at the AFCON 2025 tournament.

He suffered a syndesmosis ligament tear, forcing him to undergo surgery and keeping him out of action for four months.

Felix Agu ruled out of Werder Bremen clash vs Hamburg

The Nordderby pits Die Waderaner against Hamburg, but Werder are in a fight to remain in the German top-flight.

Hamburg on the other hand, aren’t exactly safe, but they’re three points above Werder Bremen on the Bundesliga table.

Since his return from injury, Agu has yet to finish a 90-minute game. The most he’s played was in the 1-3 loss to FC Koln last week.

Coach Thioune revealed that he’s still struggling with muscular problems, but completed individual training before the clash.

Karl Hein (thumb injury), Julian Malatini (tear of the syndesmosis ligament in the ankle joint), Wesley Adeh (ligament tear), Keke Topp (cruciate ligament tear), Mitchell Weiser (cruciate ligament tear) and Victor Boniface (fitness issues), will be absent.

Should Werder Bremen seal all three points today, they could go up to 12th on the Bundesliga table.
