Werder Bremen’s Head of first team football, Peter Josef Niemeyer, has issued a heartbreaking verdict on Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface, Afrik Foot reports.
Boniface has endured a tough year, dating back to last January when his proposed move to Al-Nassr fell through.
In the summer, the 25-year-old was linked with a loan move to AC Milan. The Italians already had a deal agreed in place, including an option to make the transfer permanent if the Nigerian hits certain criteria.
However, a thorough medical check revealed that Boniface’s knees were not fully healed, considering he ruptured his knee ligaments during his time at Bodo/Glimt.

After his time at Bodo/Glimt, Boniface joined Union St.Gilloise, where he barely had any injury problems.
On the transfer deadline day, the Super Eagles striker joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan, but he couldn’t find form with Die Werderaner.
In 11 games, he scored no goals and provided two assists, all whilst battling fitness problems.

Werder Bremen chief issues Victor Boniface update
Upon further checks, it was discovered that Boniface had damaged the cartilage in the knee where he suffered an ACL rupture, and as such, needed to undergo surgery, with the approval of his parent club, Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
The surgery went well, and the striker has gone on to post his recovery journey on his social media page, with Kelechi Iheanacho, Florian Wirtz and Alejandro Grimaldo wishing him a quick return to the pitch.
However, Peter Niemeyer has revealed that Boniface’s chances of playing again this season are very slim.
“He is completing his rehab in Leverkusen, and we are happy about any progress. But it is not yet foreseeable how quickly he will be fit again,” the 42-year-old said in quotes revealed by Deichstube.
“Due to the rehabilitation process, we do not assume that Victor will be used for Werder this season,” Mr Niemeyer confirmed.

Since Boniface started his recovery process in January, Werder Bremen have failed to win any of the eight games they played.
They’ve lost five and drawn three, and are currently languishing in 16th place on the Bundesliga table, at the risk of relegation to the 2. Bundesliga at the end of the season.
