Yira Sor: Genk make transfer decision on speedster with one Super Eagles cap

Published on by

Super Eagles winger Yira Sor is expected to leave Belgian Jupiler Pro League club Genk at the end of the season, Afrik-Foot reports.

Sor has had a topsy-turvy time since joining Genk from Slavia Prague in January 2023.

At the time, they paid €6.5 million for his services, expecting that he would grow, improve, and eventually fetch a higher transfer fee.

However, it hasn’t turned out that way. The 25-year-old forward has been brilliant in patches, but securing a regular starting spot has proven difficult.

This season, he has featured in 26 league games, but only ten of those were starts. He currently has four goals and one assist to his name. The last time Sor started a game for Genk was on March 7.

From all indications, Genk coach Nicky Hayen, who was appointed last December, doesn’t appear to be a big fan of the Super Eagles star. This could mark the end of his time at the club.

Yira Sor’s Time At Genk Set To End?

Yira Sor’s time at Genk is set to end this summer. According to Ma Pro League, the club is looking to offload several players, one of whom is Sor.

The Super Eagles star still has one year left on his contract. Considering they paid a premium for him, the club will not want to let him leave for free; as such, they will be searching for buyers in the summer.

As of now, there are no reports of formal interest in the former Slavia Prague man, but he shouldn’t be short of suitors.

This season, Sor hit speeds of around 39 km/h, making him one of the fastest players in football history. Having also represented Nigeria and possessing immense natural talent, he is still likely to secure a decent move.

The 25-year-old is currently valued at €3 million on Transfermarkt. But since Genk are looking to offload him, they might even accept a lower fee.
