Kaizer Chiefs fell 4-0 against FC Utrecht in their second pre-season game played on Friday at the Zoudenbalch Training Center.
Having lost the initial game against Vitesse 2-1, the Glamour Boys hoped to have a better outing in their next outing against an even tougher opponent.
Coach Nasreddine Nabi started with Brandon Petersen, Thabiso Monyane, Nkanyiso Shinga, Inacio Miguel, Aden McCarthy, Thabo Cele, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Mduduzi Shabalala, Nkosinphile Ngcobo, Glody Lilepo, and Flavio Silva in the first half.
Chiefs punished for a poor start
The Soweto giants started the match quite well, trying to build from the back to the danger zone. However, they failed to get a meaningful result in the final third as combinations failed to work.
The Eredivisie outfit needed just six minutes to score their first goal; Chiefs conceded a free kick in a dangerous position. The defenders failed to clear the danger, and the ball eventually found its way to Siebe Horemans who tapped the ball into an empty net.
Despite the many chnaces created in the first half, no more goals were scored by either team.
Goals rain after the break
After the pause, the Dutch side started strongly, with Petesen forced into a fine save following a swift counter attack.
In the 48th minute, once again, the Glamour Boys were undone with mistakes at the back, allowing Adrian Blake to get his name on the score sheet.
It became worse for the Nedbank Cup champions as FC Utrecht made it three in the 55th minute. Horemans played a good cross into the danger zone, and David Min played a nice back heel to Blake, who had an easy time completing his brace.
Amakhosi conceded the fourth goal in the 83rd minute as Miliano Jonathans raced clear before confidently beating Bruce Bvuma, who had replaced Petersen in the Chiefs' goal.
The next game for Nabi's men will be against Nec Nijmegen on Saturday.
