Orlando Pirates product Lyle Foster won the Man of the Match Award on Monday night after his direct contribution to the two goals Bafana Bafana scored in the 2-1 win over Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group B outing played at the Marrakesh Stadium.
The Burnley Forward first set up Oswin Appollis for the first goal before beautifully scoring the second goal to ensure Show’s strike couldn’t deny them maximum points in the pool.
It was Bafana Bafana’s first win against Angola in the last five games across all competitions, with two ending in favour of the latter and one ending in a draw. Furthermore, South Africa have now beaten their regional rivals in three out of five Africa Cup of Nations meeting.
Foster has appreciated the collective responsibility which saw his team get maximum points.
Elated Foster delighted with vital victory
“It’s a nice trophy [MOTM award] but most importantly we needed the three points today. Tough first half. I think we started the game well, afterwards we grew into it,” he told the media.
“So, we had to be very hard at half-time to be honest with ourselves. Second half we came out, I think we showed a different team, we got the winning goal. Thank God. Happy now, now we move on to the next one,” Foster concluded.
Meanwhile, coach Hugo Broos has underlined the importance of the win ahead of the date with Egypt.
“We tried to avoid [losing] because if we should have lost again today and then we have the game against Egypt you are big in trouble. I wasn’t pleased with the game we played in the first half. At just a moment we led 1-0 then we fell asleep, we let Angola come in back in the game.
“So, we put something right during half-time and you see the second half we make more pressure, there is more movement in the team and then we have chances and this is what I want,” he concluded.
