Amakhosi have been given an irresistible bid for one of their key players

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly received an offer of R40 million for Ashley Du Preez from Portuguese club Vitoria SC.

The Glamour Boys are still scouring the market for more additions to the squad but could also lose one of their key players following the massive offer.

According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs are considering accepting the offer as the money could be used to strengthen the squad, although the deal is still in its initial stages.

“Yes, I know we spoke about an offer and the Sporting Director is the one working on that. Apparently, the Portuguese club has offered R40 million for Ashely,” the outlet quoted a source, who requested anonymity.

Should Kaizer Chiefs allow Ashely Du Preez to leave?

“The way things are standing right now, Chiefs are considering taking that offer so that they can use part of the money to sign some of the players that the club wants. I can’t say it is a done deal yet but the offer is on the table as we speak, and it is a substantial amount which is hard to resist,” added the source.

Chiefs are reportedly keen on offloading the forward to reinvest the money elsewhere as according to the outlet, they were planning for life without him anyway.

“They had been planning for next season without Ashley already and that is why this deal would make sense to the club as it would help them strengthen their budget and sign those players on the wanted list,” a source at the club told Soccer Laduma.

Vitoria are close to Conference League group stage

“We know it is not easy as it seems on paper but at least, it is a great offer, which if it goes through, will help the team.”

Vitoria finished fifth in the Primera Liga last season to qualify for the Europa Conference League and have one foot in the group stages as they carry a 3-0 advantage against Swiss side FC Zurich into Thursday’s second leg.

They started their new league season with a 1-0 victory against Arouca on Monday but are still looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their multiple challenges in 2024-25.

Former Stellenbosch FC attacker Du Preez scored four league goals in 23 appearances for Chiefs last season, having managed six and four assists in 25 PSL matches the previous campaign.
