Bafana Bafana star Oswin Appollis has addressed the persistent speculation linking him with a move away from Orlando Pirates, stating his current focus remains solely on the Soweto giants.

Following a standout season for both club and country, the dynamic winger has become a hot topic in transfer discussions, with several European clubs reportedly interested in securing his services.

After a remarkable individual campaign that established him as one of the Premier Soccer League’s top talents, Appollis has been at the centre of transfer talk. The 24-year-old’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, leading to widespread reports of a potential move to Europe during the current transfer window.

The speculation intensified following his key role in South Africa’s recent international success. However, when asked about his future, the Cape Town-born attacker was quick to dismiss the noise and reaffirm his dedication to the Buccaneers.

“At the moment, I’m not focused on those kinds of things; my job is to play for Orlando Pirates, and I’m happy here,” Appollis stated as quoted by GOAL. “So other things that have been in the media, I don’t take note of them. As I said, my job is to play for Pirates because I’m happy here.”

Appollis’s journey to stardom has been swift since joining Orlando Pirates from Polokwane City FC before the 2025/26 season. The club reportedly beat out fierce competition from local rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as other African clubs, to sign him.

His on-field contributions have been the primary catalyst for the European interest. In the 2025/26 campaign, Appollis featured in 43 matches across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists, playing a crucial part in the Buccaneers’ historic treble-winning season.

The winger’s value soared even higher after his instrumental role with Bafana Bafana during their record-breaking 2026 FIFA World Cup run. Appollis was a key player as Hugo Broos’s squad made history, becoming the first South African men’s senior team to reach the tournament’s knockout stages.

Transfer rumours were further fueled when Appollis was conspicuously absent from the team’s arrival at OR Tambo International Airport. As thousands of fans and officials gathered to celebrate the national heroes, his absence led many to believe he was already abroad finalising a deal.

Despite the allure of European football, Appollis appears content to continue his career under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou at Orlando Pirates. The player has previously mentioned his eagerness to join the club when the chance arose, and that loyalty seems to be unwavering.

Pirates’ management will undoubtedly be keen to retain their star player, particularly with the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign and the opportunity to add more trophies to their cabinet.

For now, while the European transfer window remains open, Appollis has made his position clear: his focus is firmly on the pitch with the Sea Robbers.
