Attacker who denied Chiefs win adamant is among PSL’s best & ‘deserve to be in Bafana’

Bafana Bafana are set for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that will be played in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.

The national team will then start preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. However, they will also be subjected to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

Coach Hugo Broos has been sticking to almost the same circle of players in the last three years, making minimal changes to the squad. This has led to consistency in terms of positive results for the national team.

Nevertheless, Marumo Gallants attacker Jaisen Clifford believes he should be part of Broos' team since he is among the best in the Premier Soccer League. The 29-year-old has played in Portugal, Malta, Bulgaria, and Lithuania. He has been doing well in PSL, scoring vital goals, including the equaliser against Kaizer Chiefs in the last league meeting.

Clifford wants Broos to consider him for the Bafana Bafana call-up

“I’ve always wanted to play for the national team. The current squad of the national team is comprised of the best players in the country. I’m sure I should be a part of them. I’m one of them. I respect all those players, and I think they’re all very good, but I do think I deserve to be a part of them,” he told FARPost.

“Obviously, for a large part of my career, I haven’t been considered for the national team. To have the recognition, it would be a huge honour to be amongst those players, to be recognised by the country.

“I mean, of course, every player wants to make their nation proud and to do something for their country.

“So, I’m no different in that regard. I hope it happens, but if it doesn’t happen, I’m quite happy and content with the way my career has been. And I’m happy at the moment,” Clifford concluded.
