Bafana Bafana star forced to chase after team bus following Europa League loss

Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana reportedly had to run after the team bus after being left behind on Thursday.

Ngezana, who plays for Romanian side FCSB, had featured for 90 minutes as they played against Ligue 1 club Lyon in the Europa League Round of 16, when they lost 3-1 in the first leg, in France.

After the match, Ngezana missed the team bus, after it had taken off without him, forcing him to run after it before it left him in France.

According to Romanian outlet DigiSport, Ngezana ran after the bus as it was leaving but luckily caught up with it and joined his team-mates for the trip to the airport before they flew back to Romania.

Ngezana put in a great display, even if his side lost, and was lucky to escape a yellow card that would have ruled him out of the return match next Thursday when FCSB will hope to overturn their first leg deficit.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player has made 32 appearances for his Romanian club this season, scoring one goal, and is one of coach’s Elias Charalambous’ key players as he rarely misses a game.

That includes seven out of the eight Europa League matches that FCSB have played this season, starting all of them.

Ngezana is also looking forward to joining the Bafana Bafana team for their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin this month.

South Africa will host Lesotho at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on March 21 before an away trip to Benin four days later.
