Bafana star blatantly tells off critics ahead of World Cup date with Czech Republic: ‘It is disappointing!’

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has been on the receiving end since the 2-0 loss against Mexico in the 2026 FIFA World Cup opener.

The veteran tactician opted to go with a defensive approach in the 5-3-2 formation and ended up paying the price as El Tri attacked with every opportunity they got. With South Korea beating the Czech Republic 2-1 in the other Group A fixture, Bafana Bafana dropped to the bottom of the pool.

This put their chances of making the knockout phase in jeopardy since it means they will have to dig deeper in the forthcoming two group outings to stand a chance of advancing.

On-loan Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ricardo Goss, who is part of the team in Mexico, has now told off critics. The Siwelele custodian argues such negative comments shouldn’t come from those who have been in the game for a long time.

“It’s just disappointing, people that have been in the game, the comments they give. From people you played with, you don’t expect those people to say such negative stuff,” Goss told the media.

“It’s just unfortunate that we aren’t realistic enough as South Africa. I’m not saying we shouldn’t go try and win games but I think it’s unfair on the coach. If you look at his hips stay with the national team I think that has been phenomenal, and its something we haven’t had for a while.

“It is everyone’s dream to play in the World Cup, and maybe they also wanted to be here. We are a positive bunch. Going back to AFCON we lost 2-0 in our first match and went on to get the bronze medal. It is something we can draw on and implement in this World Cup.

“They are two different tournaments, and the quality is not the same, but if we can get that mentality we had going into the Namibia game, we can get out of the group,” Goss concluded as the team prepares to play the Czech Republic on Thursday, June 18.
