Barnard Parker slams prominent agent for dishonesty over his Chiefs exit

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker has hit out at his ex-agent Mike Makaab for failing to take care of his interests when he left Amakhosi.

Parker worked with Makaab for 16 years but their relationship broke down when his deal with Chiefs ended in 2022 with the agent allegedly not doing much to help him extend his stay at Naturena while giving him false promises.

The TS Galaxy assistant coach claims his agent knew Chiefs were going to cut ties with him but he remained mum over the issue.

“I reiterated to the chairman my willingness to give back to the club in whichever way, and I was told that I would get a call in a month. The call didn't come,” Parker, who played for Chiefs between 2011 and 2022, said on Smash Sports.

Makaab accused of doing little to get Parker new club

“In the following months, I pushed again, and then they eventually said that I must go see coach Molefi Ntseki. I went to him, he took note and said we will see, and that's where it ended.”

Parker has slammed the agent for dragging his feet when it came to finding him a new club upon his departure from Chiefs when SuperSport United were keen to sign him, forcing him to ditch Makaab and represent himself as he signed for Galaxy.

“I've been with him for 16 years at that point, so I just wanted him to talk to me straight. I was told the club was struggling and not able to afford me, to which I responded by saying, I don't want money, I just want to play, and nobody mentioned anything about personal terms,” he added.

“Coach Gavin wanted me and was pushing for me to join the club. I went to Mike Makaab and told him, ‘I heard you put in an offer, can you tell me what's going on?'”

Parker, who played in Europe for Red Star Belgrade in Serbia, FC Twente in the Netherlands and in Greece with Panserraikos between 2009 and 2011, further claims that Makaab convinced him to return to the country when he still wanted to play abroad as he wanted to make a quick buck.

“Later on, I realised why I was pushed to come back to play for Kaizer Chiefs, it was a business decision, because Knowledge Musona and I were represented by the same agent, and he wanted to get a move to Europe,” said Parker.

“After all the success at the club, I realised later on that it was a business decision… release Musona and we'll give you Parker.”

Makaab has since reacted to Parker’s claims and promised to respond on Friday.
