Blow to Kaizer Chiefs as key forward is set to miss Soweto Derby

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are in dire straits as far as their form and league position is concerned with coach Nasreddine Nabi under massive pressure.

Chiefs have gone six league matches without a win and are still smarting from last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Marumo Gallants, their third defeat during that period when they have also drawn as many, and ahead of the Soweto Derby, coach Nabi would have wished to have all his best players.

The Glamour Boys host bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in a PSL clash on Sunday May 3 and having lost the corresponding fixture, there is pressure to win but they will have to do it without young forward Wandile Duba.

Duba has been vital for Chiefs this season and he is the club’s top scorer with six goals, having also weighed in with three assists, and was the catalyst for their 2-1 comeback win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, which earned them another clash with Pirates on May 10.

Why is Duba missing the Soweto Derby?

The 20-year-old is suspended for the match after accumulating four yellow cards and will watch from the sidelines as the Glamour Boys try to end their slide against Pirates, who are smarting from their CAF Champions League semi-final exit.

Nabi has relied on Duba in recent matches with Ranga Chivaviro and January signing Tashreeq Morris not impressing but he will have to call on either of the two in the Soweto Derby.

Chivaviro has five goals this season while Mathews, who joined the club from SuperSport United in January, is yet to find the target.

Chiefs can ill afford another defeat as their loss to Gallants saw them slip to ninth place on the table.
