Broos & Co. told off on Mbokazi move – ‘I don’t know why we underestimate MLS

Bafana Bafana international Mbekezeli Mbokazi recently made a surprising move to the Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire.

The former Orlando Pirates defender has been excellent since making his debut in South African top flight football in March. He has since made massive improvements that have led to his inclusioon in the South Africa assignments across all competitions.

Coach Hugo Broos is among those who felt that the 20-year-old could have been patient and wait for a better offer.

Chicago Fire have signed Mbekezeli Mbokazi

I think, no [it’s not a good move]. What is he going to do in Chicago? It’s not even a cup team in America. If my info is right, they told me he’s playing MLS2, at the second team of Chicago – if it’s true, I don’t know I will ask him when I see him. That is even worse,” he told the media in a recent interview.

Mbokazi lauded for a ‘decent move’

However, ex-Kaizer Chiefs winger Juni insists Junior Khanye should be supported for his milestone.

“The boy’s background is going to push him to last longer, even as an international,” he opened up to iDiski TV.

“And this move is more of a stepping stone for him. I don’t know why we underestimate the American league, I really don’t know why. Some of the best leagues in the world do not even look at our league.

“This is a decent move and look at the money they signed him for. He is now going to be exposed and the money tells you there is something the team has seen.

“I don’t want to be negative about that move because it’s a good move.” Khanye concluded.
