Broos hopes Mbokazi ‘is not made crazy’ like Mofokeng! ‘He will listen’

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos hopes Mbekezeli Mbokazi ‘will not be made crazy' like Relebohile Mofokeng regarding his future.

The Orlando Pirates duo has been a hit at the club despite being young. Mofokeng sprouted at the end of the 2022/23 season when he was unveiled by the then coach Jose Riveiro. He has since made his name both at Bucs and Bafana Bafana.

His teammate Mbokazi was introduced just in March this year; but for a starter, it will be hard to tell he has not even finished a year in top-level competition. Just like Mofokeng, he as already established himself in the senior national team.

‘They made Mofokeng crazy!'

For the last two seasons, Mofokeng has been linked with top clubs in the continent and abroad. But nothing substantial came his way which saw him remain with the Soweto giants. His form has deepened which is a concern to Broos, who hopes the same doesn't befall Mbokazi.

“This is not my job to interfere with [advising players where to go], I’m a Bafana Bafana coach and I will talk to [Mbokazi], certainly when we’re in AFCON, I will have the time and deal my experience with him with hope he listens,” the Belgian told the media.

“I think he will listen beause he’s a very humble guy, but when you’re in an environment that can make you crazy, a guy at 20, will be crazy also, so it’s something I will certainly do, I spoke to Mofokeng also.

“Why is Rele not at the level he was last year? It’s very clear, they made him crazy! You can’t ask a guy at the age of 20, that he can say yes I’m concentrating on football not what those guys are telling me, I’m not listening. At the end, you listen, and this is normal, you can’t blame Mofokeng for that.

“Maybe it’s in my job to go to those guys and say pay attention to this and blah blah blah; but that’s all I can do,” he added.

Impossible that Mbokazi will be at Bucs next season!

“We have spoken before about players that must go to Europe that the most important thing is to choose the right club and not the money. It’s important. I see Mbokazi, I pray to God because it’s impossible that next season he will be playing in South Africa,” Broos continued.

“I pray to God that he’s surrounded by people who think and who don’t think about [the logo] of the club because he will choose the wrong things. And his career then never be what is expected to be when you look at his talent. So, this is very important that it happens.

“If he makes the right choice and he’s abroad, you will see what he will become. He will be a very good player; you can be sure of that. And there are others, but the choice is very important,” he concluded.
