Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he overlooked Kaizer Chiefs players in his squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique in June.
Broos named his final squad for the two matches but there was no sight of a Chiefs player with Orlando Players dominating the list with nine.
That led to questions over why no Chiefs player was deemed good enough to make the final squad but Broos had a brutal response regarding his decision to snub Amakhosi stars.
Why did Broos snub Chiefs players?
“For the moment, I can’t select players of Kaizer Chiefs and I hope that they make a better season next year,” Broos said on Thursday.
“Okay they have won the cup but I think that was the only highlight in the season of Chiefs. All the rest was not so good. So, I don’t think the supporters are very happy now because they have won the cup.
“I don’t have anything against Chiefs but I have to be honest with my choices and most of the time, it was not good with Chiefs. It was not good, otherwise a team like Chiefs is not no.9 in the ranking.
“They are number three, two or number one.”
Bafana coach increases pressure on Nabi

Chiefs endured yet another frustrating season when coach Nasreddine Nabi could only manage to guide them to a disappointing ninth place finish in the PSL even though they ended their 10-year wait for a trophy by winning the Nedbank Cup.
That has seen Nabi come under scrutiny with calls for him to be sacked growing louder in recent weeks and Broos seems to have added to the pressure.
Broos has consistently overlooked Chiefs players during his tenure as Bafana Bafana coach with only defender Rushwin Dortley getting call-ups and playing for the national team recently, having featured in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but he is currently nursing an injury that needed surgery.
