Broos makes brave commitment to Selepe, Nkota, Mbokazi & co. ahead of Bafana Bafana friendlies

South Africa are set to play Tanzania and Mozambique respectively in the forthcoming international friendly matches scheduled for June 6 and 10.

Bafana Bafana are set to play the two nations without the Mamelodi Sundowns stars, who are preparing for the Fifa Club World Cup, set to be played in the United States from June 14 to July 13. The Premier Soccer League champions will represent Africa alongside Al Ahly, Esperance, and Wydad Casablanca.

Orlando Pirates stars like Simphiwe Selepe, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Deano van Rooyen, and Mohau Nkota are among the players who have been given their maiden call-ups. It explains why they might be given their debuts by the Belgian tactician.

With the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers resuming in September, which will be followed by the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Morocco from late December.

‘It’s a good opportunity for everyone to prove themselves'

Broos insists the debutants will not be subjected to immense pressure since they are gaining experience. The veteran tactician is anticipating tough assignments against Taifa Stars and Os Mambas.

“The performance is the most important thing. We want to win the two games, and we will do everything to win them. But more importantly, it is the performance of the players, certainly the new players, and again, I will not put pressure on them. They just have to play their game and then we will see, evaluate what we are going to do in the future,” he said as quoted by the Safa media team.

“The opponents are not the strongest ones, but certainly not the weakest of Africa. Both countries were at the Afcon last year, so even Mozambique is in a good space to go to the World Cup next year.

“So this means there will be a good opponent in the two games, and therefore, again, I think it’s a good opportunity for everyone to prove themselves, to show their qualities,” he concluded.
