Buoyant Chiefs Midfielder Believes They Can Beat Sundowns

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo is optimistic about Kaizer Chiefs' chances against Mamelodi Sundowns. The 25-year-old midfielder, now a regular starter, says the team is feeling confident and ready for the match. 

He highlights their past victories against Sundowns as a reason for their belief, stating that they have “shown in the past they are capable of beating” their rivals.

Ngcobo's return to form has been remarkable. At the start of last season, he was a fringe player who struggled for minutes, but he has now solidified his place in the starting eleven. 

He credits this turnaround to his successful transition into a deeper midfield role, where he now partners with Thabo Cele. This is a significant tactical change for a player who was previously known for his more attacking roles, like a No. 10 or an inverted wide midfielder.

Despite his excellent performances in this new position, Ngcobo remains grounded. He admits he's still learning the ropes and believes there's room for improvement.

“I think with the previous game we have shown we can beat Sundowns – so I think the game plan worked very well in our last game against them, we just have to continue with our game plan,” Ngcobo said.

“We know Sundowns is a team that likes to have the ball, so for us, it’s to defend well and makes sure we do hurt them when we get our chances.”
