Caf Champions League: Bullish Jurcic adamant Pyramids ‘need to fight’ against Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns are away in Egypt, preparing to play Pyramids in the second leg of the Caf Champions League final in Cairo.

The initial meeting at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane ended 1-1, which gives the Egyptian outfit a slim advantage ahead of the Sunday fixture. While Masandawana are hoping to win their second star, Pyramids are chasing their first.

The Brazilians are full of confidence after winning the Premier Soccer League, while their opponents narrowly lost the Egyptian Premier League to Al Ahly. It explains why the Pyramids' coach Krunoslav Jurcic believes his team can bounce back.

Sundowns are a strong team but…

The Pyramids coach is anticipating a tough outing against the South African heavyweights, insisting the league disappointment is the past.

“What happened in the league doesn't matter now; we have 90 minutes ahead of us, the most important in the club's history. We need to fight, have spirit, and be focused,” he said as quoted by the Egyptian media.

“Sundowns is a strong team, but we have the potential to win our first continental title,” he concluded.

The Miguel Cardoso-led team managed to get past Al Ahly in the semi-final. The two teams drew 0-0 in Mzansi, before the Brazilians advanced on an away goal rule after a 1-1 draw in Egypt.

Pyramids eliminated Orlando Pirates in the last four to get into the last hurdle. The sides played to a goalless draw in the initial meeting at the Orlando Stadium before the Buccaneers fell 3-2 in Cairo.
