Can Richards Bay tame Pirates? Riveiro wary of opponent’s threat

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro is anticipating a tough clash in the Premier Soccer League assignment against Richards Bay this weekend.

Last season, the Natal Rich Boys eliminated Bucs from the Carling knockout and managed to get four points from them in the league.

However, this season, the Buccaneers have started the season strongly; in the nine games played across all competitions, the Soweto giants have not tasted defeat, winning seven and drawing two.

Richards Bay have managed a win, a draw, and a loss in their last three Premier Soccer League games.

Riveiro wary of Richards Bay threat

“We played two games, and we are so happy to collect maximum points in these two games, but right now our full attention is already on Richards Bay, recovery, traveling to Durban to regroup,” the Spaniard stated.

“If I’m wrong you can correct me, we played Richards Bay three times last season; got eliminated in the Carling Cup, drew 0-0 [away], and lost the game here in Orlando Stadium.

“So, it goes without saying it’s going to be a tough game and if we’re going to collect maximum [points] there, we have to only focus on that one.”

The Sunday fixture is scheduled to be played at the King Zwelithini Stadium from 15.00 South African Time. Coach Brandon Truter and his side have collected four points so far which puts them eighth on the table.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Kaizer Chiefs are the only three teams with maximum points from their opening games in the 2024/25 PSL campaign.
