Cardoso commends Mngqithi – ‘I gave him credit personally’

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has heaped praise on his predecessor Manqoba Mngqithi, who’s now mentoring Golden Arrows.

The Portuguese tactician replaced Mngqithi in the midseason and has led Masandawana to the CAF Champions League final.

The 52-year-old is also on the verge of sealing the Betway Premiership title with Masandawana sitting at the summit of the table with 67 points after 26 matches.

Praising the work of Mngqithi, who was sacked midseason, Cardoso said he found the club well-positioned to build and achieve a successful season.

“With all the respect for coach Manqoba and the work he did, it was important obviously,” said Cardoso as quoted by FARPost.

“I think that is clear for everyone to see, where we stand and where we finished. So the credit also goes to my players, the club, and the management.

“Obviously that was important to build the team from the position where they were and that is the credit to coach Manqoba.

“I gave it personally to him when we played against [Golden Arrows]. It’s also clear that the job that was done by my staff, myself and everybody together.”

He continued, “It’s also clear, the job that was done by my staff, myself and everybody together. It’s important that people recognise what we’ve been doing in this league. We took the team to a high, high level,” Cardoso added.

“It’s not only playing fantastic but it’s beating record after record, the goals we score and not conceding much and the points we collect.

“So, I think that it’s wonderful, but we still have two matches to play, and our focus is finishing the season in the right way.”
