Cardoso explains why Shalulile has become his go-to man at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has opened up about the impact of Peter Shalulile in recent matches for the Brazilians.

Shalulile has scored in the last three games for Sundowns, including in the 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates on Saturday, and he looks rejuvenated again.

Cardoso has trusted the Namibian to start in recent matches with Iqraam Rayners contending with a spell on the bench just two months since Shalulile came close to leaving the club.

The striker was widely reported to be close to signing for a North African club in the off-season but the move did not materialise and Sundowns continue to benefit from his scoring prowess.

“We believe Peter is having a good moment right now, he’s much happier,” Cardoso told the media as per iDiski Times.

“But that also came from the beginning of the season, the situation that Peter had. There was [uncertainty] regarding him staying at the club.

“There was some questions but when the hearts are together, the smile appears, the performances appear. For some time, Peter has been training very well and is committed in the job.”

The Portuguese coach is impressed by Shalulile’s attitude and commitment to the course despite the uncertainty that surrounded his future.

“But he didn’t just play sooner because as you understand, he can’t score goals in almost every match. We don’t usually line up two strikers at the same moment,” he added.

“So, Peter waited with patience, hard work and belief, as professional as he was waiting for the moment. Peter has stood up and showed again the level of player he is and most of all how much he’s committed with us, with the work he does with teammates and the club.”

Shalulile has five goals from 13 matches in all competitions for Sundowns this season and extended his PSL scoring record to 133 goals at the weekend.
