Cedric Kaze: Former Kaizer Chiefs coach unveiled at PSL club

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has finally been confirmed as coach of PSL club Sekhukhune United following widespread reports that he had agreed a deal.

The Burundian became an attractive prospect when Chiefs opted against extending his stay at Naturena beyond last season, despite leading the Glomour Boys to their best finish in six years, when he secured third place, alongside co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef.

Sekhukhune moved with speed to land his services and he has now been unveiled with the club stating that his previous roles and experience in South African football made him the ideal candidate.

Why Babina Noko settled on Cedric Kaze

“Coach Kaze brings a wealth of experience, having worked within the Burundi national team structures, at the renown FC Barcelona academy in Canada and as part of the successful Young Africans technical team in Tanzania,” Babina Noko stated in a club statement.

“His expertise in player development, team building and high-performance football makes him a valuable addition to Sekhukhune United. The 46-year-old holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports science, CAF A and German Football Federation A coaching licenses and played a key role in guiding Young Africans to the finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in 2023.”

Sekhukhune, who finished fifth in the PSL last season, appear keen to secure continental football next season and are pinning their hopes on Kaze’s extensive knowhow.

Sekhukhune confident in Burundian coach

“As the club continues to pursue its ambitions, we are delighted to welcome coach Kaze to Sekhukhune United,” said Sekhukhune CEO Jonas Malatji.

“His extensive football backgrounds, proven leadership and valuable understanding of the Betway Premiership and the South African football landscape give us great confidence as we look ahead.”

Sekhukhune have not stated the length of Kaze’s contract but he arrives with his own backroom staff after the club parted ways with technical staff members Andre Arendse, Marc van Heerden and Kyle Solomon.

Kaze arrived in South Africa in 2024 as one of Nasreddine Nabi’s assistants at Chiefs and was elevated to co-coach, alongside Ben Youssef, when the Tunisian tactician left the club last September.
