Orlando Pirates are in the market for a new coach to replace Jose Riveiro, who is leaving at the end of the season.
The Spaniard joined the Soweto giants at the beginning of the 2022/23 edition, replacing Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Jacobs, who were serving as co-coaches. Since Riveiro took over, the Buccaneers have been rising steadily both domestically and abroad. They have won five trophies in the last three or so years.
In the ongoing campaign, Bucs reached the Caf Champions League semi-final but narrowly fell against Pyramids. They will also play Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final this weekend. Pirates have also been doing well in the Premier Soccer League, where they have presented Mamelodi Sundowns a stiff competition.
It explains why the club's supporters are not easy with Riveiro leaving, but the Spaniard has explained why fans shouldn't have any fears.
‘Orlando Pirates is a huge institution'

“This is a club project, not a Riveiro project, I’ve answered this question many, many times,” he told the media.
“The club knows what they are doing. Whoever is coming is gonna be the right person and will have the support and will find himself in a good platform to continue where we’re going to stop at the end of the season.
Football is a cycle, and Orlando Pirates is a huge institution; nothing is going to change because Riveiro is in or out. The Buccaneers don’t need to be concerned about that because the future is brilliant for the club, and it’s gonna be alright,” Riveiro concluded.
On Tuesday, Pirates hit 52 points from 23 games after beating Golden Arrows 2-1 in the Premier Soccer League assignment that was played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
