Chiefs can still challenge Pirates for PSL – Msimango

Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango is convinced the Glamour Boys can still catch archrivals Orlando Pirates in the race for the Premier Soccer League title.

The Buccaneers have managed to secure maximum points from the seven games they have played in the ongoing campaign. The Glamour Boys, who have played two matches less, have collected just seven points from two wins, a draw, and two losses.

However, that does not worry the Botswana international who believes the Glamour Boys can still show consistency and match their Soweto rivals.

It is a wide-open league

Despite trailing the leaders by 14 points, the center-back is not losing faith on the possibility of winning the title this season.

“It's a wide-open league in my opinion. Congratulations to Pirates, they've shown a good level of consistency hence they are where they are; on top of the log.

“We must try to get to the same level if not better in terms of consistency because we are happy with our performances despite the results.”

On Wednesday, Kaizer Chiefs host Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium, aiming at ending their four-match winless run across all competitions. The Natal Rich Boys have won one game, drawn two and lost four meaning they are also desperate for a positive outcome on Wednesday night.

Msimango vows to remain professional

Last season, Msimango played 25 league games for the Soweto Giants but this season, he has struggled for game time after the arrival of Inasi Miguel. On Wednesday, the former is expected to start owing to the latter's suspension.

“For me, it is to remain the professional that I am. I've come to a point in my career that I understand that football is seasonal and has phases within one's career,” he responded on his situation at the club.

“Right now, I am in a different phase and I understand that not playing has its toll on a player but I need to stay professional and stay ready and prepared to do my job when I am called upon. When the opportunity comes, Given Msimango will always be ready.”

The game between Chiefs and Richards Bay will be played from 19.30 SAT.
