Kaizer Chiefs climbed up to fifth place in the Betway Premiership table after a convincing 2-1 triumph over Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday evening.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi made two changes to the starting lineup following their loss to Cape Town City, recalling Njabulo Blom and Bradley Cross in place of Reeve Frosler and Christian Saile.

Stellenbosch opened the scoring when a misplaced pass by Rushwin Dortley allowed Devon Titus to intercept and play across the area for Khomotjo Lekoloane to tap in his first goal for the club.

Chiefs responded shortly before halftime, with Wandile Duba heading home from close range after connecting with Thatayaone Ditlhokwe's header.

Nabi then made a double substitution, bringing on Mfundo Vilakazi for Ashley Du Preez and Tebogo Potsane for Bradley Cross.

The match remained evenly contested, with Stellenbosch coming close to regaining the lead through a powerful free-kick from Lekoloane that forced Bruce Bvuma into a difficult save.

CHIEFS POSSESSION DOMINANCE IN SECOND HALF’S EARLY STAGES

Chiefs regained control ten minutes into the second half when a defense-splitting pass released Wandile Duba, who finished clinically from a tight angle.

Stellenbosch nearly equalized moments later when Ibraheem Jabaar unleashed a vicious shot that was brilliantly saved by Bvuma.

Despite the setback, Stellenbosch continued to press for an equalizer, while Chiefs focused on maintaining their lead.

The Amakhosi faced a late scare when Sanele Barns's curling free-kick struck the upright. However, Chiefs ultimately held firm to secure the three points.
