Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed Dillon Sheppard’s promotion to second assistant coach for the senior team, where he will work under newly-appointed head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

The club announced last week that Da Cruz would take the helm on July 1, with Mahmoud Abbas serving as his first assistant. Sheppard now joins the first-team technical staff, transitioning from his role with the Amakhosi DStv Diski Challenge side.

This appointment marks a return to a senior coaching role for Sheppard, who previously served as an assistant under former coaches Stuart Baxter and Arthur Zwane.

In an official statement, the club detailed Sheppard’s expanded responsibilities.

Chiefs on Sheppard’s expanded role

“Coach Sheppard will officially take on the role of second assistant coach, working alongside Coach Fernando da Cruz and Assistant Coach Mahmoud Abbas,” the statement read.

“He will also continue to serve as the vital link between the reserve side, where he collaborates with Coach Vela Khumalo, and the senior team.”

The announcement also coincided with Sheppard successfully obtaining his CAF A coaching license, an achievement he celebrated with gratitude towards the club.

“I’m proud to have achieved this,” said Sheppard, who completed his course in Tanzania.

“The journey started some time ago and came with challenges along the way, but I’m glad I’ve reached the goal. I’m grateful to the club for standing by me throughout the process, and I’ll work hard to share the knowledge I have acquired with our players and other coaches within the club.”
