Kaizer Chiefs defender dismisses pressure ahead of Sundowns tie – ‘It is a privilege’

Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel has shrugged off the perception that there is pressure when it comes to playing for the club.

Chiefs players face a lot of scrutiny and criticism which comes from the fact that they play for the most popular club in South Africa and some of them have either crumbled under pressure while others have thrived.

Ahead of their match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, the same is being applied to the Glamour Boys, who will be the host team and expected to do well, added to the fact that they have started the season with back-to-back wins.

Miguel shrugs off pressure talk

However, the Angolan defender is not buying into that and is instead looking at it as a big privilege.

“There is no pressure…I always say to our young boys that there is no pressure,” Miguel told the media on Thursday.

“Pressure is when you have to feed your family but you do not have a job. Pressure is when you have someone sick in the hospital and you cannot do nothing about it.

“I felt the pressure when my grandmother was in the hospital in Portugal and I was in Angola and could not do anything. That was real pressure,” he further stated.

Chiefs defender on Sundowns clash

Reflecting on the game against Sundowns, their biggest test so far this season, Miguel says it would be wrong to approach it with pressure as that would lead to their downfall.

“Now playing for Chiefs, playing in a big game is not pressure. It is a privilege, obviously it comes with responsibility and I will change the word pressure for responsibility,” he added.

“We will face Sundowns with a lot of responsibility. There is no such a beautiful thing and better game to play against such a huge team like Sundowns.

“I will play with privilege and the day I start playing with pressure, I will stop playing football because it does not make sense. All that I have done all my life, the day I start feeling pressure for us I will stop playing.”
