Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly abandoned Fiston Mayele’s chase with the club looking elsewhere for the striking department role.
Mayele has been on Amakhosi’s radar since his days at Young Africans where they also worked with the current Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi.
However, the DRC international went on to sign with the Egyptian giants Pyramids at the beginning of the 2002/23 season.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys have reportedly ceased their interest in Fiston Mayele, as per Soccer Laduma. The key stumbling block for Chiefs appears to be Mayele's continuously rising transfer fee, making a potential deal too costly for the club's budget.
Further, Pyramids are on the verge of extending his stay, meaning, his potential suitors would have to fork out big amounts for his services.
Amakhosi are said to be looking at Richards Bay’s Yanela Mbuthuma and Al-Duhail’s Michael Olunga.

CHIEFS NOW INTERESTED IN MBUTHUMA AND OLUNGA
“There are many factors which are believed to have led to this decision by the team,” said Soccer Laduma’s source.
“Almost every time they want to sign him the price goes up because there are other clubs interesred in him as well, and now it's believed that Pyramids FC are extending his contract which makes it even harder to convince them to let him go.
“So it's for these reasons that the club is believed to have reached a decision to give up on Mayele for now.
“It doesn't mean if they give up on Mayele they won't be looking at other strikers. You remember Michael Olunga and Yanela Mbuthuma? Those are just some of the strikers the team is apparently looking at.
“They still need to bolster the striking force but Fiston Mayele could probably not be one of the targets anymore. They are looking at other different strikers now. Remember the team will be playing in Africa next season so they need strikers who can win games for the team.”
