Chiefs’ Mokwana blow? Latest on contract breach

Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana's attorney Kabelo Mashigo recently revealed Tunisian outfit Esperance had breached the agreement between the parties.

The 25-year-old claimed he had not been paid by the North Africans since joining in the most recent transfer window.

Terminating the existing deal was one of the options that could have seen Kaizer Chiefs get a chance to sign the attacker. However, it seems the problem has been solved as revealed by Mashigo in his latest interview with SABC.

“No, we have made it clear that this cannot happen again, and the enforcement of applicable regulations will be applied without further notice, should anything like this ever happen,” he stated.

“On Friday we had a discussion with the club, and we were able to find each other. The club has essentially rectified its breach, meaning they are no longer in breach and have complied with the terms of the contract to date.

“Elias will be returning to Tunis to fulfill his obligations as per the contract, once he is done with national duty,” Mashigo concluded.

Mokwana is currently with Bafana Bafana preparing to play South Sudan in the final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. A win will guarantee South Africa a top place in Group K regardless of the outcome between Uganda, who are second, and Congo who are placed third.

Mokwana started in the 2-0 win over Cranes in Kampala and is expected to play a part against the Bright Stars on Tuesday.
