Kaizer Chiefs staring at more trouble from PSL

Kaizer Chiefs are staring at more fines from the PSL over the bad behavior of their supporters yet again following the ugly incidents witnessed during their Carling Knockout quarter-final loss.

Chiefs were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, when coach Nasreddine Nabi’s team was totally outclassed, and disappointed supporters reacted by throwing objects onto the pitch while some even made their way onto the playing surface in an attempt to get at referee Luxolo Badi.

It is the second time in a month that the Chiefs supporters are behaving badly, having thrown objects onto the pitch in late September when coincidentally Amakhosi lost to Sundowns following a 2-1 league defeat that was marred by claims of poor officiating.

Those ugly scenes attracted a total fine of R150,000 from the PSL with Chiefs warned against repeating the same this season but it lasted just over a month before supporters lost their heads again.

“They pleaded guilty as charged, and they were fined a monetary fine of 100,000 of which 50,000 is suspended on condition that during the period of suspension, which is up to the end of the season, they are not found guilty of a similar offence,” read the ruling from the PSL Disciplinary Committee when handing Chiefs the punishment over the September 28 incident.

“Last season, they still had an outstanding and suspended fine of another 100,000 rands from a similar incident. Effectively, it means now that they were convicted for this new offence, they will now pay an additional 100,000 which was previously suspended.”

It means the suspended fine is set to be activated at the next PSL Disciplinary Committee sitting with additional costs in the offing for Amakhosi who seem unable to tame their supporters.
