Kaizer Chiefs told to swallow their pride and appoint veteran PSL coach

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has strongly advised the club to “swallow their pride” and appoint decorated coach Pitso Mosimane to end their prolonged trophy drought.

Chiefs have not won a major trophy since their Premier Soccer League (PSL) title victory in 2015. As the club prepares to name a new permanent coach at the end of the season, calls for Mosimane’s appointment have grown louder.

Mosimane, currently without a job, boasts an impressive resume that includes five PSL titles, three CAF Champions League trophies, and numerous domestic cups won at Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly.

Khanye wants Chiefs to act swiftly

“Bring Pitso, give him a cheque book and also restructure their development because you can’t buy, buy forever,” Khanye said on Marawa Sports Worldwide with Robert Marawa.

“They need along the way in three years, if somebody says I need three players, let’s go there [academy]. In the development, they will understand the culture of the team,” Khanye added, emphasizing the need for long-term vision.

While Mosimane has previously indicated he is open to coaching the Glamour Boys, the club has yet to make a formal approach. Kaizer Chiefs are currently under the guidance of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, whose tenure will come to an end in June.

“The answer is very simple, I think the mindset of the technical team, how they do things,” Khanye further said regarding why Mosimane is yet to be approached despite being free. “Pitso like he keeps saying; ‘I am available’ so bring him. There is no other coach for me.”

Khanye argued that the club should act immediately as believes Mosimane should be given the job now to assess the current squad and identify transfer targets for next season.

“Kaizer Chiefs must swallow their pride and bring him now, give him a cheque book now so that he can come and watch the games remaining and identify players that he wants now,” he said.
