Chiefs Transfer News: Another striker coming in after snub by current team?

Published on by

Bafana Bafana striker Khanyisa Mayo has been forced into the market after CR Belouizdad coach Sead Ramovic revealed the forward has no place in his team.

The 27-year-old Mayo joined the Algerian outfit from Cape Town City at the beginning of the 2024/25 season. Kaizer Chiefs were also targeting the South Africa international, but they narrowly missed out.

In his debut season, the forward played 41 games for the club across all competitions, but managed just six goals and an assist, which is low by his standards. Former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic is not keen on keeping the striker beyond the concluded campaign, despite him having two years remaining on his current deal.

Having added Farid El Mela (Angers), Mohamed Ali Ben Hamouda (El Mahalla), Abdenor Belhocini (CS Constantine), and Redhon Xhixha (Qarabag) to their attack, Ramovic sees Mayo as surplus to requirements.

A new challenge will be the best for Mayo

“It was my decision, and it was not an easy one; Mayo is a true professional, and I have the utmost respect for him. But in football, it’s about timing, the right role for the player, and the overall strategy of the team,” Ramovic told iDiski Times.

“At this stage, I believe a new challenge would be the best opportunity for him to continue playing at the highest level. I truly wish him every success in the next chapter of his career,” the tactician concluded.

Well, it is interesting to see whether Chiefs will revive their interest in the forward. They have already signed Flavio Silva and Etiosa Ighodaro to bolster their attack. The Glamour Boys have started the ongoing 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign with four wins and a draw, which puts them joint top of the table alongside Sekhukhune United.
