Kaizer Chiefs strengthened their third place in the PSL when they moved six points clear of fourth-placed AmaZulu FC following a 4-1 thrashing of relegation-threatened Magesi FC.
Chiefs went into the match at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane looking for a fifth straight win and secured it without much sweat against a Magesi team that looks destined for the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The Glamour Boys turned on the style with Flavio Silva scoring the opening goal after 33 minutes and in some style. Silva received a ball from Glody Lilepo, and with his back to goal, took two touches before firing past Elvis Chipezeze in the Magesi goal on the half-turn.
It took Chiefs just four minutes to score the second goal when Wandile Duba capitalised on confusion in the Magesi box to score. Chipezeze went for an aerial ball and got obstructed by his teammate, seeing him miss it, and it fell kindly to Duba in the box who fired low past the goalkeeper.
Amakhosi extend lead but Mofokeng pull one back
Chiefs would go into the break with their tails up and maintained the onslaught in the second stanza. The second goal arrived for Amakhosi just after the hour mark when Duba passed to Reeve Frolser and the full-back brought in a lovely cutback which Mduduzi Shabalala latched onto to score with a lovely low shot inside the box.

From this moment, it looked like the Soweto giants were coasting to a comfortable win but Magesi pulled one back from a set-piece.
Mcedi Vandala floated in a good ball from a freekick and the wicked shot evaded Chiefs players before Diteboho Mofokeng reacted quickly to get his head onto it and see it bounce into the net.
This did not deter Chiefs, however, as they kept asking the questions and soon after, substitute Khanyisa Mayo missed from close range when he failed to connect well with a cross in the box.

However, Mayo would get his moment of glory seven minutes from time when he rose heighted to head home from a lovely cross in the box brought by Frosler.
The striker, whose future at the club is uncertain as he heads into the final weeks of his season-long loan deal, positioned himself well in between the two defenders to head past Chipezeze for his second goal of the campaign.

It was a good day at the office for Chiefs who have now won five straight league games, something not witnessed in their last two seasons, and they are firmly in third position with 45 points from 23 matches, six ahead of AmaZulu in fourth, and still with a game in hand.
In fact, Chiefs can even begin to think about second place as they are 10 points behind Orlando Pirates, who have played a match more, and can narrow it to four if they win their game in hand as well as the Soweto Derby on April 26.
