Orlando Pirates solidified their position at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table, restoring their six-point advantage with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Richards Bay FC on Sunday.

Thuto Sesipo was the hero for the Buccaneers, scoring the decisive goal in the first half. The victory marked Pirates’ second consecutive win on the road, pushing them closer to their first-ever Diski Challenge title while leaving Richards Bay languishing in ninth place.

Sundowns snatch late winner to maintain pressure

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns refused to let the leaders pull away, securing a dramatic 1-0 victory against Stellenbosch FC at Tuks Stadium.

The match appeared destined for a draw after a tightly-contested battle, but Thato Sibiya emerged as the match-winner for Masandawana, finding the net in the dying moments to leave the Maroons heartbroken.

Chiefs’ winning streak halted by Siwelele

Elsewhere, Kaizer Chiefs saw their three-match winning run come to an end after being held to a 1-1 draw by Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.

Despite entering the match in fine form against a struggling Siwelele side, the Amakhosi could not find a winner, and both teams ultimately shared the points.

Durban City dominate KZN Derby

In the KwaZulu-Natal derby, Durban City claimed bragging rights and their third straight victory with an emphatic 4-1 thrashing of Golden Arrows at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

The Team of Choice were dominant from the start, with Mthobisi Zondo scoring twice to give them a comfortable two-goal lead at halftime. Although Abonge Newman pulled one back for Abafana Bes’thende, Durban City maintained control to secure all three points.

In other matches, Magesi FC and Orbit College played out a tense mid-table clash that ended in a goalless stalemate. The result snapped a two-match losing streak for Orbit College, but they remain in the bottom three, while Magesi’s inconsistent form continues.

Marumo Gallants were held to a 1-1 draw by TS Galaxy. The result sees Gallants remain in sixth, while the Rockets dropped to eleventh place as Sekhukhune United extended their winning run with a convincing 3-1 victory over AmaZulu.

In a battle at the bottom of the table, Chippa United’s winless streak stretched to five games as they drew 1-1 with Polokwane City.
