DStv Diski Challenge: Pirates maintain slim lead as Kaizer Chiefs return to winning ways

Orlando Pirates re-established their three-point advantage at the summit of the DStv Diski Challenge table with a commanding 3-0 win against Orbit College on Sunday.

The Buccaneers asserted their dominance early, securing a comfortable two-goal lead by halftime thanks to strikes from Simphiwe Masilela and Samukele Zikalala. Will Henson later added a third, sealing the victory and keeping the Soweto giants on course for their first-ever Diski Challenge title.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns solidified their second-place position, closing the gap on the leaders to just three points after a 2-0 triumph over Marumo Gallants FC on Saturday.

Top scorer Bennet Mokoena gave the Tshwane side a 1-0 lead heading into the break. Oarabile Booysen then doubled the advantage in the second half, continuing his impressive goal-scoring form to secure all three points for his team.

Chiefs and Stellenbosch secure key victories

Kaizer Chiefs returned to winning form, holding onto fifth place with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against an inconsistent Magesi FC. The Glamour Boys started strong, with Mpho Khethang and Kamogelo Malefo finding the net to give them a halftime lead. Substitute Donay Jansen scored the decisive goal in the second half to clinch the win.

Stellenbosch FC broke a five-match winless spell by defeating bottom-of-the-log Chippa United 1-0. After a goalless first half, the Maroons found a winner, condemning the Chilli Boys to their third consecutive loss and keeping them rooted to the foot of the table.

Mixed fortunes in mid-table clashes

AmaZulu ended a four-match winless streak with a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City, a result that propelled them into the top half of the standings. Despite Polokwane’s recent surprise win, Usuthu proved too strong and took all the points back to Durban.

TS Galaxy also climbed back into the top eight after a narrow 1-0 win against Richards Bay FC. A first-half goal from Mlondi Mncwango was enough to give the Rockets the victory, extending the Natal Rich Boys’ winless run to five matches.

In other results, Siwelele FC’s title aspirations took another hit as they fell 3-1 to Durban City. Goals from Onele Rulwana, Sinamandla Zondi, and Siyanda Ximba secured the win for City, ending their own three-game losing streak.

Golden Arrows and Sekhukhune United played out an exciting 2-2 draw. Sfundo Shezi put Arrows ahead before Tshepang Malepe equalized for Sekhukhune before halftime. Sphamandla Shangase restored the home side’s lead, but a last-gasp goal from Sesona Jack ensured the spoils were shared.
