Elias Mokwana on target as he wins first trophy at Esperance

Bafana Bafana forward Elias Mokwana led Tunisian giants Esperance de Tunis to their seventh Super Cup win when he scored in their 2-0 victory on Sunday.

Esperance sealed their cup win against Stade Tunisien with Mokwana and Algerian international Youcef Belaili on target for the Tunisian giants.

Mokwana was on target in the 59th minute and Esperance held on until the 84th minute when Belaili added the second for the cup win, handing the South African international his first major trophy in North Africa.

Mokwana in contention for league title

His goal was the sixth for his new club which he joined at the start of this season from Sekhukhune United.

Mokwana has been instrumental in his side’s campaign so far as they are top of the table in the Tunisian top flight with 42 points, three ahead of second-placed Zarzis, and in line for his maiden league title at the club.

They are also in the CAF Champions League quarter-final, looking to claim their fifth continental title, and Mokwana will play a key part.

Sunday’s win will mean Esperance are the most decorated club in Tunisia and have now won the Tunisian Super Cup seven times.

Mokwana and his Esperance team-mates will be back in action on Wednesday, February 19 when they take on Zarzis in a top of the table league clash at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi Stadium.

The forward will be looking to maintain his great form to stay in contention for a place in the Bafana Bafana team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
