Iranian club Esteghlal has reportedly offered to pay Pitso Mosimane his outstanding dues in cash due to technicalities in wiring the money via the bank.
Mosimane has had a salary dispute with Esteghlal after giving the club a two-week ultimatum to settle his dues or he would terminate his contract as per the FIFA rules, casting doubts over his future in Iran.
The 60-year-old’s agent recently admitted his client was owed money by Esteghlal, who he joined in October last year, and has led to three wins, six draws and three losses.
Efforts to wire money to Pitso hit a snag
“It is true, we are owed money,” Mosimane’s agent Moira Thagale told Soccer Laduma this week.
With the Iranian league on a break until January 20, Mosimane has been on a break back home in South Africa but the club has been making efforts to pay his outstanding salary.
As per Iranian outlet Sport3, Esteghlal have proposed a cash payment to the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach upon his return to Iran as their efforts to wire the cash via the bank hit a snag due to restrictions on those in the Middle East country from making transactions to South African banks.
Does Mosimane have a future at Esteghlal?
It is also claimed that Esteghlal looked at the possibility of making the payment using an account number from the United Arab Emirates or Qatar but it would take longer to reflect, hence their decision to pay him in cash.
The news comes a day after Esteghlal named former executive director Ali Nazari Juybari as the club’s new general manager, replacing Farshid Samiei.
Esteghlal, who are 11th on the 16-team table, return to action with a home match against second from bottom Shams Azar on January 20 and a win will lift them into the top half of the table.
