Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has been backed to succeed at Egyptian giants Al Ahly as he edges closer to being unveiled by the Cairo Red Devils.
Riveiro left Pirates over a week ago to take up a new job and it has since been revealed that he will be joining Al Ahly as their new coach after agreeing to take over from Marcel Koller.
It is the biggest job on the continent as Riveiro will be tasked with bringing success to Africa’s most successful team but a former Al Ahly official and player feels the Spanish coach will be a success because of a number of reasons.

Hady Khashaba, who played at Al Ahly from 1990-2006 before leading the club’s strategy until his departure in 2014, says the Team of the Century would have done their due diligence before settling on Riveiro and that there is everything in place for him to succeed.

“Rivero has significant African experience, and Al Ahly doesn't choose a coach randomly. He possesses the qualities that qualify him for success, along with a strong roster that will help him achieve his goals,” Khashaba said on Egyptian network Ten TV.

Riveiro made his name at Pirates having arrived as an unknown coach in 2022, reviving the team from a struggling side into title challengers, and also led them to the CAF Champions League semi-final this year.
The 47-year-old won five trophies with the Soweto giants, three MTN8s and two Nedbank Cups, and will take over the Al Ahly hot seat with his stock high.
