Ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach predicts doom for Amakhosi against Sundowns

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Farouk Khan has explained why he feels Kaizer Chiefs will struggle against Mamelodi Sundowns in their midweek PSL match on Wednesday.

Sundowns welcome Chiefs looking to maintain their lead as they march towards a ninth straight league title while Orlando Pirates are hoping that they drop points for them to close in.

However, Khan has some bad news for Pirates as he does not think Chiefs, who used a physical approach to frustrate the Buccaneers in the Soweto Derby last month, have any chance against the Brazilians.

Ex-Chiefs coach in awe of Sundowns’ quality

“Chiefs are going to use a lot of physicality to ensure that they upset the rhythm of Mamelodi Sundowns. However, the [Sundowns] subs are out of this world,” Khan said onSoccer Beat after watching Sundowns dismantle Polokwane City to win 3-0 on Sunday.

“[Bryan] Leon comes off the bench, [Khuliso] Mudau and [Nuno] Santos come off the bench and impact the game. With that quality, I don’t think the same physicality will have the effect that it had against Orlando Pirates.”

Khan feels Sundowns have the best team when it comes to quality in every position and which can handle any situation thrown at them by Chiefs.

“These guys have a good balance, they have got [Teboho] Mokoena in midfield, he can sort things out. Mudau, physically he can deal with any type of pressure,” he went on.

“Then you have [Grant] Kekana on the bench, the likes of [Keano] Cupid, [Khulumani] Ndamane, even though he made a mistake, he is a quality defender so I think on the balance of what we are going to expect in the Chiefs game, I think Sundowns can deal with that physicality which I think Orlando Pirates had a problem dealing with and in the end, we saw the result.

“So just that quality that is oozing out that technical brilliance. When you play against a team that knows how to use the ball and with so much creativity that even if you mark them tight, they get out of tight situations,” Khan further stated.

Besides their quality squad, Sundowns also have a good record against Chiefs, who have not beaten them in their last 10 league meetings, eight of which they have won while two ended in draws, including this season’s corresponding fixture, that ended goalless last August.
