Ex-Kaizer Chiefs hurt by Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad: ‘I felt very bad! Never seen anything like that’

Immediate former Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze is unhappy with the way the South African Football Association (SAFA), handled the omission of six players from the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Amakhosi captain Brandon Petersen, defender Thabiso Monyane and midfielder Lebohang Mabow were overlooked alongside Patrick Maswanganyi of Orlando Pirates, Durban City star Brooklyn Poggenpoel and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Thapelo Morena.

The dropped players were among the 32 included in the dinner organised by the federation, and after the announcement, the hurt could be seen on their face throughout the evening.

The Burundian felt the situation could have been handled better by the involved parties.

Kaze unhappy with Bafana Bafana

“First and foremost, I felt very bad for the 6 players that got left out,” he said in an interview on MSW.

“In a scenario where you bring the players to a place where you announce the players who are going, those players are left hanging around. I’m pretty sure that I have never seen anything like that in the world, but it happened.”

“But I felt maybe they could have been a classy way of telling them that they are not going to be part of the World Cup squad,” Kaze concluded.
