Ex-Chiefs forward identifies what is fueling their great run

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Lehlohonolo Majoro believes his ex-team’s great start to the season is not by fluke but fully deserved due to a number of factors.

Chiefs have started the season in fine fashion with four wins and a draw, keeping clean sheets in all five matches, to take them joint top of the table with Sekhukhune United.

The Glamour Boys have been lauded by how they have gone about their business but there is cautious optimism among some of their fans who feel they could slip back to their old bad habits of inconsistent results.

However, Majoro, who played for Chiefs from 2011-2013, feels the Glamour Boys have turned a corner as the players seem to have learnt from their past mistakes and are also keen to win more silverware after tasting Nedbank Cup glory.

Trophy win has given Chiefs hunger for more

“Here is the thing: most people forget that football is a game of emotions, and it’s a game of momentum in a way,” Majoro told FARPost.

“I believe that they [Chiefs] have worked hard to be where they are. They have worked hard to win four out of the five matches they have played so far.

“Also, I believe the motivation for them to win a trophy [Nedbank Cup] has driven them, because they have tasted glory. They know what it takes to win a trophy, and that is what is happening now with most players.

“They have to finish the job that has been set before them and execute differently because they know the feeling of lifting a trophy. That is what Chiefs require, and the players have gone through a lot.”

Can Nabi’s men sustain the momentum?

Majoro says Chiefs fans have suffered for long and it is now time to bring back the smile, something that will add impetus to Nasreddine Nabi’s side.

“I think we owe it to them because you can’t always be the one receiving the short end of the stick. When they are winning, our country is happy, and we are happy as football fanatics. At the end of the day, Chiefs are a big team in the country and have more followers, whether we like it or not,” he added.

“They deserve everything that is happening now because the boys are turning the corner. All we want to see is for them to continue with that momentum.”

Chiefs have a tough match after the international break as they will face off with table toppers Sekhukhune United will test their title credentials.
