A former Orlando Pirates midfielder has been appointed as the vice-captain of the French Ligue 1 side having spent five seasons with the club.

Stade Reims announced their new captain following the departure of Yunis Abdelhamid who was the skipper of the club. He left the club as the end of the last season as a free agent to join Saint-Étienne.

While, Reims confirmed that Teddy Teuma will replace Abdelhamid as the club’s captain, former Pirates midfielder Marshall Munetsi joins Emmanuel Agbadou and Yehvann Diouf as part of the vice-captaincy group.

The club recognised Munetsi for his key role in the integration of young players and building unit in the group. He has been with the side since 2019 when he joined from the Buccaneers.

STADE REIMS STATEMENT OF CLUB’S LEADERSHIP GROUP

“The Maltese midfielder, at the club since last season, is the new captain of Stade de Reims,” stated the club’s statement.

“Teddy Teuma, leader by word, now becomes one by his status. With a core of experienced players around him, he will be able to guide the team effectively.

“Marshall Munetsi, recognised for his key role in the integration of young people and the cohesion of the group, will continue to occupy a central place in the SDR locker room. Emmanuel Agbadou and Yehvann Diouf assert themselves, for their part, as new pillars of the collective.

“Teddy Teuma, captain of Stade de Reims: ‘It’s a pride and joy to wear this armband. This is a continuation of what I want to build with the Club. I want to be the captain that Stade de Reims deserves. I do not claim to replace Yunis and I do not intend to do so. We are several locker room leaders including Marshall, Yehvann and Agba. Our goal is to mentor young people and lift the whole group to the next level.’”
