Former Sundowns & Chiefs attacker Dolly puts problems aside ahead of CHAN duty

Bafana Bafana are set for the 2024 CHAN scheduled to take place from August 2 in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.

South Africa have been placed in Group C together with the Cranes, Algeria, Guinea, and Niger, which gives them a chance to get in the next phase. Coach Molefi Ntseki included 14 free agents in his squad, among them former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns star Keagan Dolly.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since his exit from TS Galaxy at the end of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League campaign.

The versatile attacker feels privileged to be included in the team, and has promised to help them deliver, despite his uncertainty regarding club football, after recently conceding it is difficult to get a new team in Mzansi after clocking 30 years.

‘It is a privilege to wear the Bafana Bafana colours'

“I have always said since I started playing, being part of a national team, since Under-17, U-20, is always an honour. The opportunity came and I couldn't say no; I didn't hesitate when the call-up came,” he told the media.

“It's always an honour and privilege to wear these colours [of national team]; not a lot of people get the opportunity to represent their country, especially in a country where many young boys aspire to be professional footballers. No matter the level, I've always wanted to be there, so I am excited to be here, and I am excited to be going to this tournament,” Dolly continued.

“Since Friday, the conversation [among ourselves as players] is that we want to win it for ourselves as individuals and also for the country to make history. We all know that a lot of players here are unattached, don't have teams, but I think once we start focusing on that, we're going to drift away from the goal. The goal is to win the Chan tournament, and we are focused on that… whatever happens after that will happen,” he concluded.
