Gavin Hunt points out star who was a thorn in Kaizer Chiefs’ flesh

Stellenbosch avenged their initial 2-0 league loss against Kaizer Chiefs by claiming a 2-1 victory at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

This was the fourth time the two teams had met this season across all competitions. The other two encounters were in the Carling Knockout where Stellies advanced after emerging victors in the penalty shootout, before securing a place in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 after beating Amakhosi 2-1.

However, Hunt’s men in the competition was halted by Golden Arrows who beat them by a solitary goal.

On Tuesday, it was the Glamour Boys who took the lead through Flavio Silva, but the visitors responded courtesy of Langelihle Phili and Devin Titus to dent the Soweto giants’ hopes of winning the league.

Hunt delighted by his players

Coach Gavin Hunt has lauded players who made an impact in the game, led by Chumani Butsaka, who started the match from the bench.

“I think there’s a lot he’s got to do still – with the ball and without the ball. He is a top goalscorer which is magnificent from his perspective, but for me I think he can be so much better,” he told the media.

“The player that changed the game tonight was Chumani Butsaka, and he is another great player who can also do so much more for us. I think wingers have got to play with wingers if you understand what I’m trying to say to you. Over the last 20 years, I’ve had the best wingers in South Africa.

“There was no specific plan, but wingers have to visualise the moment in training. When the ball goes wide, the other winger has to be in the box and he was,” the former Amakhosi coach concluded.
