Cape Town Spurs have slammed the Football Kenya Federation over the manner in which they are trying to secure Vasili Manousakis as part of Benni McCarthy’s backroom staff.
McCarthy has identified Manousakis as the man he wants to work with as his assistant when he becomes the head coach of the Kenya national team, with his unveiling scheduled for Friday.
However, Manousakis is currently contracted to Spurs as their assistant coach and the club is not happy that the Kenyan FA has gone behind their backs to try and lure him to East Africa.
Spurs slam Kenyan FA over Manousakis
“We are calling out the Kenya federation and the agency involved for their unprofessional behaviour,” Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou Efstathiou told journalist Joshua Hendricks.
“Let's set the facts straight, Vasili is contracted until the end of the season, and we've had zero contact from the Kenya federation.”
Spurs are facing relegation from the Motsepe Championship, where they sit second from bottom on the 16-team log, months after getting axed from the PSL, and feel they need all hands on deck to salvage their season.
They face ninth-placed Highbury on Friday, a match they expect to have Manousakis in the dugout.
“Our full technical team, including Vasili, will be on the bench for our crucial fixture on Friday,” added Efstathiou.
Who else will be on Benni’s coaching staff?

However, Manousakis’ future beyond the match is not known although he will not accompany McCarthy during his unveiling in Kenya this week.
One man who will be part of the Bafana Bafana legend’s entourage to Nairobi is his former Orlando Pirates team-mate Moeneeb Josephs, who has agreed to be his goalkeeper trainer.
Reports in Kenya indicate that McCarthy will arrive in Nairobi on Thursday ahead of his unveiling the following day and will be joined by a Kenyan coach on his technical bench.
McCarthy worked with both Manousakis and Josephs during his stint at AmaZulu between December 2020 and March 2022.
