Has Motaung hinted Chiefs will heavily rely on DDC team despite qualifying for Caf Confederation Cup?

Kaizer Chiefs ended their decade-long trophy drought last weekend after beating Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final.

Next season, the Glamour Boys will be aiming to go big in the Premier Soccer League, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup, and MTN8 – if they manage to finish in the top eight. The Soweto giants will also be playing in the Caf Confederation Cup. It explains why they need depth and quality players who can deliver.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi has been complaining about lack of experienced players in his squad. He had to rely on academy products like Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Wandile Duba among others.

The club's management has been promising that they will strengthen in the forthcoming transfer window. Chiefs' Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung insists Amakhosi's Academy will still play a vital role in ensuring the club succeeds.

“But I think what’s also exciting is that we’ve done very well with the youth Academy. That’s something that we’ve invested in quite strongly, and you’ve seen how youth have come in, even when we couldn’t sign players in the final for the Champions League,” she told Radio947.

“We had a very young squad, but our DDC team has done exceptionally well, and that’s also looking at how it’s not only just about buying players, but also how do we bring in the next crop of players from our youth Academy.

“That I think is something that Kaizer [Motaung Jr] and the team are doing very well,” Jessica concluded.

Chiefs will conclude the season with matches against Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City, hoping to finish in the top 8.
