Have Chiefs made another blunder? ‘Silva not different from what we had & Chislett didn’t impress’

Kaizer Chiefs played Vitesse on Tuesday night in a pre-season game that was played in the Netherlands.

The Glamour Boys, who fielded two different teams on either half, gave their new signings a chance to show what they are bringing to the team. Reeve Frosler scored for the Soweto giants in the second half before an own goal by Dillan Solomons and Andy Visser's late strike sealed the win.

Former Glamour Boys' assistant coach Farouk Khan has now shared his analysis on the new players.

Silva and Chislett struggled to impress?

“Results are not important in pre-season. The team is going through periodisation so that they can peak at the right time when the league starts. You use such games to give youngsters like [Aden] McCarthy a chance. I like the fact that when they played Shinga in the second half, the boys looked like they could revive the left-back position,” he told KickOff.

“With Silva up front, he didn't look much different than what they had in the past, but it's early days. He was working very hard, he was running, he was pressing, and he could give a lot of energy up front. But whether he can score, we don't know because the best goal of the match was scored by [Reeve] Frosler.

“[Ethan] Chislett didn't impress me. He looked like he was out of sorts. I suppose it's a different level now, coming from a lower league in England. Professional football is never easy,” Khan stated.

‘There is still a lot of work in progress'

The tactician has further lauded former Orlando Pirates defender Thabiso Monyane for his exploits in his debut and stated that the Soweto giants are on the right path.

“Monyane didn't do too badly, but he was not tested, you know. We must remember they were also playing against a team that was recently relegated, so they are also trying to build. So, you can't read too much with this game,” Khan continued.

“But out of the four new players that played, Shinga is the one who impressed me. Other than that, there is still a lot of work in progress at Kaizer Chiefs,” he concluded.

The next game for Amakhosi will be on Friday against Eredivisie outfit Utrecht.
