Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has elaborated on the impact of the club's new signing, Gaston Sirino, who has made a promising start to the 2024/25 season.

The Uruguayan playmaker joined the Phefeni Glamour Boys in August this year after departing Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the previous campaign.

The 33-year-old has scored two goals and provided three assists in five games he has played in all competitions this season.

Khanye was speaking after the Chiefs’ encounter with SuperSport United, during which Sirino was substituted in the 57th minute.

He feels that Nasreddine Nabi made a wrong decision, despite the player being relatively ineffective during the match.

Khanye emphasised that Sirino is plays a distinctive role within in the team, one that no other player can replicate.

KHANYE ON SIRINO – ‘YOU DON’T SUB SIRINO’

“When you look at the game overall, Sirino was nowhere to be seen but you don’t sub Sirino,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“He is one of the best at Kaizer Chiefs. He is a special player not just at Kaizer Chiefs but even in the PSL. He is the player that makes Kaizer Chiefs look glamorous. He makes them look like they can challenge for the league or any trophy.

“When Chiefs has the ball Sirino can move anywhere, he is playing sort of a free role. Once he starts combining coming in central and there is no cover he is going to finish you. Decision making, brain, skill and technique, he is something else.

“Today they kept him on the line. When he came in central, he met Tyson Hlatshwayo, [Siphesihle] Ndlovu was also there so it was difficult for Kaizer Chiefs it forced them to play long balls. The coach saved him and subbed him but truly speaking he doesn’t have players.”
