How Much did Kaizer Chiefs make from Yusuf Maart’s sale?

Yusuf Maart is among the players who Kaizer Chiefs released in the ongoing South African transfer window.

The 30-year-old was a key player for the Glamour Boys since his move from Sekhukhune United at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. His most memorable moment, arguably, was his strike against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

The 2-1 win ended Amakhosi's decade-long drought, and probably marked a new era as the Soweto giants continue pushing for a place at the helm of South African football. The former Chiefs captain extended his stay with the Glamour Boys ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign.

It was surprising when Chiefs agreed to sell their skipper to the Austrian Bundesliga outfit SC Ried, where he has since played five games across all competitions.

During his stay at Amakhosi, Maart scored seven goals and provided eight assists from more than 90 appearances. The Bafana Bafana international was a versatile player who delivered in any position played, despite consistent criticism.

“Just two months after the move was completed, the transfer fee has emerged. Amakhosi, who paid in the region of R6 million from Babina Noko in June 2022, reportedly received a fee of €130 000. Converted to the South African rand, the fee is about R2.6 million,” FARPost reported.

“When Chiefs bought the midfielder from Sekhukhune, there was an agreement that they would give them a 20% share should they sell him in future. That means Chiefs are obligated to pay a fee of €26 000 [R530,000] to his former club,” they concluded.

Chiefs have since signed Flavio Silva (Persebaya Surabaya, Indonesia), Ethan Chislett (Port Vale, England), Nkanyiso Shinga (FC Alverce, Portugal), Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates), Thabiso Monyane (Orlando Pirates), Siphesihle Ndlovu (SuperSport United), Asanele Velebayi (Cape Town Spurs), Etiosa Ighodaro (Mamelodi Sundowns), and Luke Baartman (Cape Town Spurs).

They are on top of the Premier Soccer League table thanks to three wins registered so far.
